Yesterday I saw a friend post on Facebook "Perception is Reality." I immediately thought that was wrong. Perception is not reality. Perception is opinion based with strong attachments to beliefs. It can be altered by ones emotional state of mind during which the opinion is formed. It may be changed from time to time by an open minded individual.
An open minded individual may be considered as being positive where a close minded individual is negative. The example of a glass being half full or half empty is the best example of perception. An open minded person might say that the glass is half full where a close minded person might say that the glass is half empty. Stating one's perception doesn't make someone open or close minded either.
An open minded person might say that the glass is half empty if he was thinking ahead on how he could top off his container at the right time to avoid the glass becoming completely empty before getting a refill. This is accomplished by an open minded individual who is willing to accept change for the better. A close minded individual is resistant to change and might understand that there may be a difference in opinion, but generally feels that they're opinions are factual.
Facts are based on a number of details that can be labeled as scientific, but certainly not by opinions. No matter how you see the glass, it is approximately 50% filled with water if it is to the point that it could be considered half empty or half full. Obviously nobody is going to take the time to get an exact measurement because it is just a glass of water. Reality is based on facts and not perception.
