Android Upgrades for HTC

I was impressed and happy to see someone wrote that the HTC Incredible and Thunderbolt were both going to receive upgrades to Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 this month. This is according to HTC’s Twitter and Facebook pages. This is quite a shock that they would announce it since Verizon is very hush hush when it comes to new releases or software upgrades.

What this means is that these previously released devices by Verizon can finally use Google Talk for video chat. This is something iPhone 4 users have been able to do since their device came out. One difference though… these HTC devices will not have to be connected to WiFi like the iPhone 4 users to take advantage of video chat.

What about the Samsung Charge? I saw that the price has finally come down to $199, but I have a link for you to get it for $69 right here. I am still baffled that the HTC Evo has been out for over a year and still does not have video chat capabilities with Google Talk. I have found that you can use a “leaked” version of Gingerbread to upgrade your Samsung Charge and then can use Google Talk’s video chat capabilities. I look everyday for a better version though. There certainly have not been any announcements from Samsung or Verizon about getting an upgrade. The whole upgrade possibility is due to the Nexus S which is made by Samsung and uses Gingerbread 2.3.4.

Still waiting…
