Why I Love Android Phones

It has been 20 months since my last Windows based phone and I don't miss it one bit. I thought it was a smart phone, but you couldn't use it for GPS as it was unreliable unless you paid for Verizon's VZ Navigator. Then the apps for it sucked. It was difficult to find one that worked with your phone and version of Windows. And if you upgrade your phone, you lost the apps you paid for.

The most exciting thing with using an Android phone for the first time is the speech to text. It is so great to be able to have your phone dictate what you say rather than have to type it with a little keyboard. And the speech to text learns your voice over time so it becomes more accurate. You can also give the phone commands to navigate, send a message or a variety of other things.

The integration with Google is phenomenal. With Google Maps you can use the phone for navigation or to locate something local. Google Docs allow you to work on basic office documents without having to sit in front of your computer.

Gmail allows you to save all of your contacts in your online account and they update your phone. If you change a contracts information on your computer, it is automatically changed or your phone. Therefore you never worry about losing all of your contacts should you lose or break your phone beyond repair.

The apps can always be reinstalled into your new phone should you change phones. I have changed phones a number of times in the past year and have kept my contacts and favorite apps without ever losing one.

What about Apple and why not have an iPhone or ipad? For years Apple has worked hard to get ahead of Microsoft. With the innovation of their new devices they have done it. Google became a company, developed a number of useful tools in such a short amount of time that they passed by Microsoft, Apple and RIM (maker of BlackBerry) to have the most useful and used products in technology.

Example: Android has used speech to text for a while number of years. Apple just introduced it to their users last Winter.

Microsoft is coming with Windows 8 to be more graphically pleasing like Apple and Google. The problem is they are having to play catch up to be relevant in today's smart phone / tablet driven world. Windows 8 might not have enough going for it to be considered cutting edge. Microsoft has to bring something to the arena that Apple and Google don't have. The pace people make applications for today's smart phones, I don't think that is possible.
