When I first paid for website services, it was through iPage due to their discounted hosting costs. Unfortunately, they did not include a lot of features as most of the features were add ons. When you are creating a website, you want to have your own domain name like www.Solar2Rent.com and you have to pay someone for registering that domain name. IPage had a decent rate that was comparable to GoDaddy and other companies, but like other companies they have add-ons if you want privacy so other people can't find out who owns the domain. I left iPage for better, so I thought.
HostGator is the new company I started using almost 3 years ago to host my websites. I like the large number of tools they had available like free WordPress installation, but their Domain registration costs were higher than I got with 1and1.com which is only $4.95... for the first year. Registration with 1and1.com came with the extras that iPage was charging extra for like privacy.
Where it is given, it will be taken away... Is what I found once the first year was over and then I started getting charged $9.99/year per domain renewal. And on the 3rd year, 1and1.com increased their rate to $14.95/ year per domain renewal. For Black Friday, HostGator offered domain registration for $2.95/year per domain. I am sure that would go up in the 2nd year, but that would save me $12 per domain this year, then I could switch again for the next year. UGH
Keep your eyes open and beware of the tricks!
