Twas the night before you move in, with water and power already connected, and only Internet connection to go, when BRIGHTHOUSE HAPPENS! The scam that won't end. You call them first and hope for a new movers deal only to find the rates are about $50/ higher than what you expected. Some go and get stuck as there is no negotiating with them without the threat of disconnection.
If you decide not to get it, you will find that you can get a better deal with an outside sales associate. That doesn't make sense as that associate is obviously getting paid commission and is offering a lower rate. Then it hits you that if you had signed up directly through Brighthouse, they would have been ripping you off month after month and there is nothing you can do about it.
I dropped them for TV and went with DirecTV and later turned off the phone too. DirecTV is great other than... next blog.
So we had RunRoader Turbo with 22Mbs download and 2Mbs upload. For the longest they could have upgraded us to Turbo with 30Mbs download and the same upload for $5 more per month, but I did not take it. It was even offered at Verizon Wireless, but I did not take it. And then trouble...
We had so many disconnects in the service that ruined many Madden games online for me. It was bad enough playing with bad sports, but when you are playing good your Internet drops out. I quit playing and my blood seldom boils. But the Internet problems continued and were experienced when working from home and also appears frequently when watching a movie on Netflix. They occurred almost like clockwork every Saturday night around 11pm.
When an outage would occur, I would call technical support for them to accuse my router and would deny that it was their rented modem. They would have me connect to it directly with a llong network cable to verify that it was not working correctly. This is typical response from Brighthouse as one time a technician came to the house to inspect the modem, replaced it and took off my nearly new network cable to put his ugly looking network cable that looked like it had been used in a messy house. For the longest he would connect with his Windows based tablet, but could not get me connected. I took the network cable off that he brought and installed mine in its place and "Wallah!" It worked perfectly. I wanted to throw his ugly network cable in his face so bad.
Recently the technician on the phone suggested that I was resetting everything when I unplugged both the router and their cable modem after experiencing the Internet disconnected. I decided that we could use a new router that could handle more so we bought one at Best Buy. It was a Nighthawk by Netgear, so it looked very cool and had great range, until Saturday night happened again and our Internet was off in the middle of watching a movie.
It was time to go more drastic. We exchanged the new router for a new cable/modem/router. We got the Motorola cable modem and wireless router combo. This new device provides AC connectivity like the Netgear Nighthawk and it is almost identical to the Motorola modem/router supplied by Brighthouse for home networking.
By taking back the rented router to a local Brighthouse office, we cut another $4 a month off of our bill. We also no longer have to worry about there 2nd rate equipment going bad. The customer service tells you that if you ever have a problem with their equipment, you can take it to be exchanged or a service representative may come to your house and replace it. The problem is that they do not replace it with a new device, but rather another used device that might be worse than the one they took away.
Now I would like to get the speed increased without having to bundle the television service. NEXT BLOG
