LeBron James is one of the best players in NBA history, but has built up to a villain status. He played hard in Cleveland and they tried to build a team around him with limited resources. It was a dramatic blow to the city of Cleveland when he left.
The fans did not like the way he left Cleveland with his hour long special to announce his decision to join the Miami Heat. James was the most sought after free agent in sports history and every one wanted to know where he was going. LeBron made his announcement at the end of an hour long show to benefit charity in the name of the Boys and Girls Club, so his heart was in the right place despite breaking the hearts of all of the Cleveland fans.
Once it was announced that he was joining Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosch to win the NBA championship he multiplied his haters. He boldly predicted that they will win 7 championships as a team. This built more hate as he was saying that because they joined forces, they were better than the Jordan Bulls, Magic Lakers and the Bird Celtics. None of which formed such an alliance of free agents in that fashion.
The Lakers and the Celtics have been all time NBA favorite teams and to say that the Heat were going to be better was like spitting on their banners. Then there are sports analysis that will go as far to say that the Lakers were not a dynasty. They won 5 championships and lost in the finals to the 76ers, Celtics, Pistons and the Bulls. Therefore the Magic Johnson lead Lakers were in the finals for 10 years. Dynasty found, myth proven.
On top of that, the Heat were going to be better than the beloved Jordan lead Bulls starts spitting on Jordan's legacy as the greatest basketball player of all time. Even though many of the Bulls fans were bandwagon fans due to Michael Jordan, they were still loyal.
The combination of fans from the Lakers, Celtics, Bulls and his prior home of Cleveland makes LeBron James the biggest marked villain in NBA history as more than 2/3 of NBA fans hate LeBron James. He will always be a superstar that people respect but love to see lose.
