Clippers trade Chris Paul to Rockets http://www.latimes.com/sports/clippers/la-sp-chris-paul-trade-20170628-story.html
Winner: LA Clippers
Loser: Chris Paul and the Houston Rockets
Chris Paul was going to take his option to become a free agent this summer and could sign with any team he wanted including the Rockets. He did the Clippers a favor and resigned with them so they could get something in return for him leaving. Did he not see how the Knicks screwed themselves for trading their valuable players for Carmelo Anthony and never playing good since?
Houston gave up Patrick Beverly, Lou Williams and a draft pick for Chris Paul. Is I were to go to a team that had those 2 players, I wouldn't want them to leave. Despite playing the same position, each player plays quite differently and could coexist on the court at the same time.
Does that make the Clippers better? Not really unless Austin Rivers is not really the coaches son and is not going to play for them next season. The Clippers did improve their tradable assets they can deal to the league's number one buyer, the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs need to get more valuable to keep LeBron James so trading for players and getting rid of Love makes sense.
The Cavs led the league in 3 point shooting this past season to try to compete with the Golden State Warriors and then lost to the better 3 point shooting Warriors. Faster feet on defense would help and Patrick Beverly and Lou Williams would be just that. Sorry Darren Williams. Good try.
