Congratulation to the Boston Red Sox for their World Series win over my Los Angeles Dodgers. Did it seem strange that the Dodgers manager Dave Robert's was a leader of the Red Sox in their World Series victory in 2004? Was I the only one that noticed that Ryan Madson pitched great when the bases were clear, but could not keep anyone from scoring when inheriting runners on base? Pedro Baez was clearly the best relief pitcher with Alex Wood and Kenta Maeda pitched really well with Kenley Jansen not. The pitchers were not placed in the game with a high probability of success.
Not just were the pitchers not used effectively, the left handed Dodger hitters did not
use the shift overplay to their advantage. Specifically Joc Peterson and Cody Bellinger are two of the fastest players on the Dodgers and every time they came up to hit, the infielders shifted over to the right side of the infield. I am sure Peterson and Bellinger are way faster than Brett Butler, but he was the difference offensively why the Dodgers won the World Series in 1988.
It was sad that the only game of the World Series the Dodgers won, it took twice as long as it should have if the pitchers were managed correctly. It was also disheartening when Rich Hill had a one hitter with a decent lead and lost the game because he wasn't taken out earlier or left to finish the inning. It felt like Dave Roberts should have been fired before the World Series started, but nobody would have gone for that since he was the manager that got them there. There were signs of mismanagement during the National League Championship Series with the Brewers.
