I found this great concept of “refer 3 and it’s free.” Many people I spoke to said that it sounds too good to be true. I was hoping to be the one to prove them wrong… so this is my story.
At first, they were using a mobile provider that began with “T” as their carrier to promote this service with unlimited calls, text and data. I really like my service with Verizon, but I know there are lower cost providers with much more to offer. My service with Verizon has been wonderful other than the cost. So I kept my service as a back up plan until I could get service going with WoW Mobile.
The initial sign up fee with them is paid out in commission to the recruiting upline up to 50%. I know a pyramid scheme is what you are thinking, but it is not what I am afraid of as everything in business has a similar structure especially in financial services.
I decided that I was not going to purchase their Samsung Galaxy directly from them as I could get it cheaper off Ebay. I did not pay for the SIM card initially, so after a week I went ahead and did that. About a week later, it was disclosed that WoW Mobile’s parent company Liberty International was having a problem with their provider T-Mobile (might as well tell since they probably won’t get things fixed).
The problem arose from T-Mobile customers going into a retail store asking for the same offer that WoW Mobile provided with free service by referring 3 people. T-Mobile told Liberty International that they could not issue anything that had the T-Mobile logo on it including cell phone, SIM cards and especially no advertising through websites.
This was a problem for me since I had just placed my order for a SIM card the prior weekend. The problem escalated as I did not have 3 people signed up and Liberty International debited my checking account 2 weeks later for the monthly service fee along with their website fee of $29.99. The problem was worse due to the fact that there is no customer service phone number at Liberty International. I submitted an email to the customer service department without a response.
I immediately went to my bank and filed a dispute and had the money back within 3 business days. I immediately cancelled the “auto-ship” to keep them from drafting my account again, especially since they refuse to reply to any of my messages. Another couple of weeks go by and finally I receive an email asking me if I would like a refund of the $29.99 I paid for the SIM card. They issued the refund within a couple of days and I was happier.
A week later, I received another email from Liberty International to say since I cancelled my “auto-ship” I was being cancelled including my back office access to the website. This happened only 2 days after the announcement of the next carrier’s availability (Sprint). The email said that they were sending the message to my upline and their legal department. My response back was WTF.
My worse fear came true. Liberty International was quick to charge people and automatically debit someone’s account, but refused to provide their end of the service. What do I do next, dispute with the bank for the original $99 I paid to sign up?
By the next weekend, I received another email from my upline with a new issue with T-Mobile. They cancelled 1050 WoW Mobile customers service completely because of unauthorized international calls because they did not have a way to bill for them. The cancellation was without any notice. This was proof to me that their contracts with what ever carriers they choose are not in the best interest of consumers.
I was warned by Liberty International in different email messages from the upline that anyone who got a full refund would be denied joining Liberty International ever again under their Tax ID (Social Security Number).
Free cell phone service sounds good, but only if the service works for you. If I place my business phone number through this service exclusively and lose my phone number completely, what will my customers think when they can’t get through to me? Will they trust me to continue servicing them? Will they take any future recommendations by me?
So far, I have found Liberty International and WoW Mobile as a big scam. They want to hype people up about getting free service and their internet TV for free too. Stay away!
