Did you watch the special hour long documentary on BP’s oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that aired last month on cable TV? I found it very interesting as they shared with the public what happened and what they have tried to do to fix the issue. It amazed me that with so many experts, that the leak continued for so long.
The continued leak has cost BP a tremendous amount of money in fines. I would like to hear if they are actually going to pay the government’s steep fines. Regardless, they could be making money with this instead of such a waste. If there is that much oil and pressure from one drilling, then obviously there is a great amount of oil under the ocean floor and could eliminate our dependency of oil from the Middle East.
From the documentary, different ways to stop the leak were discussed. The problem with each failed solution is that they pressure that was is spitting the oil into the ocean is so high that nothing has worked. I understand that it takes a year to build a oil rig normally. But it also takes 6 to 9 months to build a house, until the home make over show on national television showed us it can be completed in a week.
Point being is when the pressure is on, and everything is working together, an oil rig can be built in a month or less. To alleviate the pressure of the oil, there should be many more oil wells drilled in the surrounding area. With additional rigs pumping oil, BP could make a huge amount of money and relieve the existing leak to the point where they could place a cap on it.
