Samsung Omnia Last Hurrah

I owned a Samsung Omnia i910 until a couple of weeks ago and loved the phone. I tried different versions of Windows Mobile 6.5. Each version that I uploaded to my phone was missing something and did not offer as many options as my original configuration on the phone. I found the only thing I liked about the other operating systems was the different display.
The factory display that included the widget bar was pretty cool, but not as cool as the new Samsung Omnia II that allowed you to download free widgets to the widget bar. I then decided to look for widgets that I could download for my Omnia i910 and found a few. The problem was that they were all distorted and did not function properly. Therefore I deleted them.
My favorite program that I downloaded to my Omnia was Bing. Bing was so cool how it integrated with the GPS, but what was the coolest feature was the voice to text when searching for different things. I thought my phone was so much superior to my wife’s Blackberry Storm because her Bing app was not as cool as mine.
I have tried to update my Bing to the latest version, but found that my Omnia did not have enough resolution to support it. I was terribly disappointed when at the end of July when I opened Bing, it would open and a message displayed to say that my phone was not supported and the app closed. Therefore I was forced to use my browser to access Bing’s website, but without GPS support.
My other issue was with my Omnia’s GPS did not work properly most of the time. I had the familiar location of being in Luanda, Africa when it tried to locate me with Google Maps and Bing. I thought that it was funny when the Android phones came out and it was such a big deal that they could display a street view of a location. My Omnia could do that with Google Maps also!
I was exposed to Wow Mobile about 4 months ago and thought that wireless tethering should be included with my phone. I found an application on the Windows Mobile Marketplace that gave my Samsung Omnia the capability to tether wirelessly. Although it was a trial, it was exciting that it could be done and without affecting my phone primary operating system. The speed of the connection was dismal, but I was still impressed that it could be done.
I was eligible for an upgrade in August which my birthday is also is in the middle. My Omnia was very good, but I wanted a little better in terms of faster speed, internet speed, more applications and a GPS that works all of the time. After considering Sprint’s HTC EVO, I chose the reliable Verizon and purchased the HTC Incredible. I listed my phone for sale that night on Amazon and it was sold the next day for more than what I would have got from EBay. I am happy now.
