Wasn’t Washington Mutual cool! They provided free checks for your checking account. However we don’t use checks that often anymore with online bill pay. I was one of many who received an incentive to start banking with Washington Mutual before they changed their name to Chase. So I deposited some money and got rewarded with free, taxable, incentive. Not really free.
I did not use this free account and let it sit for a while until I received another incentive offer to received $125 if I start using my account by setting up a direct deposit of at least $500 a month. I really liked Chase when their Android application was available in November of 2010 that allowed me to deposit checks I received using my phone. I used them for my business account too because of that.
The account was to be free for life too. Apparently I have lived a long life because in February Chase changed their plans. They introduced new fees for business accounts and personal accounts. They went into affect automatically. I was charged $15 for my business account. I do not use that account enough to justify paying anything for it so I closed both accounts out and took my business and money back to Wachovia.
Wachovia is another one of the big banks that got bought by a bigger one, but they have been good to me with their Way2Save account and free checking accounts. We will see what happens in June when they drop the Wachovia name and rename to Wells Fargo. I may decide to go to the credit union next. I hope not.
I am writing this to tell you of my storey in hopes I can save you some money and frustration if you have not looked at your Chase account in a while and find that it is depleted with new fees.
