Craigslist No No’s

I love using Craigslist to sell things and find things that I do not want to pay retail price for. Craigslist represents people as a whole so you have many honest people and there are some scams. You can’t let a few bad apples eliminate your desire to ever eat an apple again.

There are not too many things they can do to you if you do not share too much information.

  1. Never list your email address on a listing. If someone wants to contact you through email, allow them to reply through Craigslist so they do not include you on a list that gets SPAMMED constantly.
  2. Never reply to someone who emails you something crazy or stupid. Once you reply, then they have your email address and you will get on that SPAM list again.
  3. Physical address is fine for a garage sale, but do not include your address and phone number in the same posting as it signals thieves as a way to break into your home when you are not there.
  4. Do not reply to an email saying they would like your address where they can send you a check. Craigslist is designed for local area residents to advertise. There is no reason why someone needs to send you money that is no good.
  5. Do not offer to bring something you have for sale to the seller. If they are interested in buying it from you, make them come to you. Gas is too high to take your stuff to meet someone somewhere and they don’t show up or don’t buy it. Save yourself the frustration because it is not like you are getting what you paid for your items most of the time.

I hope that helps.
