This year both the National Football League and the National Basketball Association have started their seasons with lockouts. Surprisingly to me that the NFL started their lockout before the Superbowl for the prior year. Or at least that is the way it appeared when they had deadlines to discuss negotiations a month after the Superbowl. The NFL lockout was on ESPN every day until it was settled at the end of July.
I remember one of the reports on the NFL lockout was a football player making the situation bigger than players and owners as he talked about all of the workers at the stadiums that will be hurt if there wasn’t a season. The biggest day of the football week is Sunday because that is when games are played. There are people that work to prepare before a game, work during the game and clean up crews for after the game. ONE DAY A WEEK! I don’t know anybody working a manual labor job who only works one day a week.
Other sports do play multiple times a week like the NBA. Their lockout is a little different in that there are other basketball leagues around the world to play for money. The USA may not always have the best league in the world for basketball soon. But why doesn’t the NBA get as much attention as football’s lockout?
I have a friend who said football is a bigger sport than basketball. I believe there is more attention to football due to the fact that there are so many fewer games in a season than any other sport. What would the weekly count look like if we compared the weekly attendees and television viewers for football and basketball?
The main reason why you can not compare the 2 sports is the fact that there are other basketball leagues around the world that are alive and making money. There is only one American Football League as the rest of the world plays soccer and calls it football. There have been many attempts to create another league, but all have failed to produce the quality game the NFL provides.
What will come for the NBA?
