Problems with Office Depot

I have stayed away from Office Max for a number of years because I felt they were too expensive. Office Max would offer discounts and still charge more than you could buy something at a comparable store like Office Depot. Ever since I started using my first Android phone in August of 2010, I have shopped at Office Depot because of the coupons on the coupon app.

Slowly, the coupons were for less and required you to spend more at Office Depot. Having a small business, I always like to look to get another printer. Unfortunately, when I go to Office Depot, there is nobody that cares to help me. In August of 2011, I remember going to the downtown Orlando Office Depot store looking to buy a printer. The questions built up in my head and I couldn’t take it anymore so I sought out help.

Close by, there was a register set up near the printers where 3 associates were standing watching another put paper in the receipt printer. I asked if someone would help me and one of them came with me to answer my questions. In less than 5 minutes, that associate left me to do something and told me he would be right back. Ten minutes later I asked to speak to someone else since he hadn’t come back. That associate continued to help me with my questions, although he couldn’t find any of the answers to them.

The associate did find that they did not have any of the Samsung 320-CLP printers in stock, but the other store in Winter Park did. So I left and went to that store where again I had to break up a huddle of 3 employees to get my questions answered that the prior store couldn’t answer for me.

I proceeded to buy the printer I came to inquire about. The printer was s wireless printer, but after I printed a page, my computer would not find it on the network. This happened 5 each of the first 2 days I had the printer. I was extremely unhappy, so I packed it up and took it back.

When I arrived at the store with the printer to return, the associate told me that they do not offer refunds on technology equipment. WHAT!!! If I had bought this item at Best Buy or Wal-Mart and had the same problem, they would have returned it. After a few minutes, the manager walked over and gave me a complete refund of my purchase.

On to the second incident….

I am very particular about what kind of pens I buy. I think they overcharge at office supply stores like Office Depot, but with the right discount… I bought a 20 pack of Foray Pens that included 10 black, 5 red and 5 blue pens. This appeared to be the perfect combination for me. It also worked out that I gave a few to my daughter for her school supplies over the summer.

The pens were great until you start using them. I had one of the blue pens coming loose where they screw together. And all of the pens wrote horribly after the first sentence of use. I really felt bad because I had given my daughter crappy pens.

I put the package in my car to take back. When I got to the store, they told me that they would not do anything for me. The manager was too busy that he wouldn’t even come over to speak to me. When I receive bad service, I don’t go back!

I noticed there was a Quality Assurance phone number on the back of the package, so I called it when I got home. I was on hold for over 45 minutes to finally speak to someone. I found this brand of pens was exclusive to Office Depot. That representative told me they do not guarantee their pens.and they only have a 30 day return policy for them.

I don’t understand why they would have a Quality Assurance phone number on the back of the package if it doesn’t mean anything. Once again I felt that Office Depot did not meat up to expectations. I will shop at Sam’s for office supplies here out.
