I posted the following on Google Plus and got some great comments:
NFL Wld Card Moments-Tebow to Thomas

EMoses: I mean they got Payton Manning. Are you actually saying they should have stuck with Tebow over PAYTON MANNING?
Me: Payton Manning is closer to the end of his career and would be the perfect person for Tebow to learn from. Tebow is already a winner, but Manning has everything that Tebow is lacking. Tebow would be the perfect person to take over when Manning retires in the next 5 years.
EMoses: If Tebow was any good he would still be in the league. There is a reason that when the Broncos signed Manning that the only team that wanted Tebow wanted him as a backup. He's not good. He can't throw a 10 yard out.
The Best: +Ethan Moses Tebow never got a chance to BE DEVELOPED. I agree with " Marcus Thomson " Denver should have kept Tebow and DEVELOPED him under MANNING. Tebow " Should be " ready to take over after Manning retires.
EMoses: If all Tebow needs is development why is he already out of the league? All 32 obviously think he's not good enough to play qb.
The Best: TEBOW never got a chance to Develop. DEVELOPING HIM.For example, Look at GENO SMITH , he is freaking AWFUL and the Jets are "trying" to develop him.
It takes time to develop a QB.
TheAtomicReagan: +Ethan Moses He could probably be in the league if he wasn't holding on to the QB dream so tightly. He's got size, strength, speed, agility, pure athleticism, competitiveness, experience, charisma, and work ethic, he just can't throw the ball well.
Me: +TheAtomicReagan hold on. There are plenty of successful QB'S that don't throw good. This video shows Tebow can throw well enough when asked to. Manning hasn't thrown a good spiral in a few years, but he is one of the smartest QB to ever play the position.
TheAtomicReagan: +Marcus Thomson There's a difference between throwing a spiral and throwing sufficiently accurately and powerfully. Manning can do that even if it's not always a spiral. But more importantly, as you mentioned, he's incredibly intelligent about how the game is played and how the defense plays. Tebow has neither the throwing skill or the intelligence about the game. He has all the other attributes to succeed as an athlete, he's just not good at the QB position. As for "there are plenty of successful QB's that don't throw good," that's just not true. In college, sure, but not the NFL. Give an example.
He may be able to throw well in a pressure situation once in a while, but that's not what you need from a quarterback. (Besides, that was a relatively simple throw, it went for a TD because of Thomas and blown coverage) A team needs consistency from a quarterback. In every game he started in his magical season, he played terribly through the first 3 and a half quarters and then barely came through at the end. He maintained a completion percentage of below 50%. Also, the Denver offense averaged something like 20 points per game while Tebow was starting. If a team is winning while scoring 20 points per game, that's not to the offense's or QB's credit, it's to the defense's. Tebow had a strong defense and a stronger receiving core, and leaning on them is what got him (barely) by.
He was incredibly fun to watch that season, he gave the team and fans a spark they needed, and it was fun seeing him briefly defy the odds with his determination regardless of how bad he was at throwing the ball, but he couldn't succeed long term with the way he was playing. No one could. Some guys just aren't quarterbacks.
Me: +TheAtomicReagan really? You want to point out the lack of production while at Denver, but did you really watch the games? Fox only allowed him to throw the ball every other 3rd down. Fox did not trust Tebow to make decisions and didn't allow him to throw until the end of the 3rd quarter. Manning is in control of the offense in Denver. He has half the abilities of Tebow, but 4 times the knowledge. Mannings' lack of arm strength is why they had no chance of beating Seattle in the Super Bowl last year. You can't throw wobbly balls against the best secondary in the game!
TheAtomicReagan: +Marcus Thomson Dude, if you're trying to tell me that Tebow is a more talented QB than Manning, I'm gonna dismiss you right now as not knowing football. Tebow did get the chance to throw more than you seem to think. If he was throwing well but just not enough times, it would have been reflected in his passing stats. Again, below 50% completions. He had trouble staying in the pocket. He had trouble making throwing decisions even with lots of time from the o line. He is not accurate. He probably does have a stronger arm than Manning, but that's not sufficient. The reason they lost the Super Bowl isn't because of Manning (that should be obvious from the season he had), it was because they were a one dimensional offense (no run game), their O line was weak, and they had no defense. They counted on outscoring all their opponents, but they couldn't do it against the great offense and great defense of Seattle.
Me: +TheAtomicReagan you just said what you said in your prior comment without comprehending what I wrote after your last comment. I didn't say Tebow was a more talented QB, just has more athletic ability. Manning is the better player because he is smarter and knows how to over come his athletic short comings most of the time. Stats are irrelevant with Tebow's NFL passing career due to his lack of QB knowledge, lack of offensive coordinator allowing him to pass more and lack of play makers to throw to.
When Manning signed with Denver, he attracted other solid receivers that he has confidence in to throw the ball. Everyone knew that the offense was changed for Manning.
Lastly +TheAtomicReagan what does throwing from the pocket have to do with anything? Aaron Rogers and Russell Wilson are a couple of the top QB's in the league for the past few season and both throw better out of the pocket than in the pocket.
I am not buying that Denver lost because of a one dimensional offense and no defense because the only team in history that had no defense that made it to the Super Bowl was the Kurt Warner lead Rams. Teams don't make it to the Super Bowl without a good defense. Denver might be better this year, but so is everybody else.
