Asus Chromebook Flip Sucks!

I was excited to get my new Asus Chromebook Flip. It is touchscreen, fast and beautiful. I was a little annoyed by the fingerprints when using the touchscreen. It was a really nice device for me and I was excited to hear that it was going to be one of the first to get Android apps.

I was getting in my car one morning with my Chromebook under my arm when it slipped out and landed on the floor. I almost was in my car seat when it slipped out so it was at half the height I would normally be carrying it. You can see the pictures to see what has happened.

This Asus Chromebook Flip obviously landed on the corner which bent the soft aluminum in to break the screen. The corner of the keyboard is bent also. Asus Chromebook Flip is made of aluminum all the way around and the screen is not made of Gorilla Glass and will break easier than most.

I know Asus will fix it for a fee. I spent $239 for this device 6 weeks ago. Why would I want to pay them to fix something that does not cure the problem of poor design? I found from a local repair shop that the LCD and the Digitizer are made together and cost $100 plus labor. As we know, the price for used electronics goes down everyday. I decided to sell it as is for $65 on EBay and move on.

The repair shop I visited showed me their Chromebook that had plastic sides which offered better grip and give than the aluminum. I then thought I should look for another device for business.

That day I went to Best Buy, spoke with a knowledgeable employee and found out that the Acer Chromebook R11 just arrived at the store. I liked the processor in the Asus Chromebook Flip better than the idea of having an Intel Celeron in the Acer R11. The Acer Chromebook R11 has an 11.6" Gorilla Glass touchscreen with plastic edges and 4GB of RAM. It also has a full size HDMI port. It does have aluminum behind the screen, but it is not at a high impact area and adds rigidity to the screen.

They don't make covers that protect these devices at all times! Even with a protective cover, the Asus

Chromebook will still get a cracked screen when dropped at any angle! Don't waste your money on the Asus Chromebook Flip. The Acer Chromebook R11 is the best Chromebook and maybe the best computer available for the money.
