This week the NFL and it's owners decided to make it a rule that all players must stand for the national anthem before the football games. Any players who do not wish to participate must stay in the locker room area. I would not be surprised if some teams don't even come out for the anthem, but truthfully this is a soft way to protest inequality in the United States.
The national anthem is played before every game, but seldom is viewed by fans. A third of the fans that attend the games are not at their seats for the anthem. Fans watching at home don't see the anthem as they are going to the bathroom, getting something to eat or watching something else or might fast forward through it altogether.
The national anthem only last about 3 minutes at best. Those who want to make a statement, make it during the game every time the camera is on them. Tim Tebow would have bible scriptures in the black on his cheeks. During breast cancer awareness month most players have pink shoes and towels. When someone passes, players in different sports will wear that players number on their jersey or on their shoes. The NFL players could start something that not only unifies them, but unifies every player in every sport by wearing a special wrist band that represents them standing up for racial inequality. Therefore every time the camera is on them, and you see the right message.
This special wrist band could be sold everywhere for everyone and a percentage of sales should be donated to a cause to fight racial inequality. It could even be a new one created just from this cause. Therefore I don't believe that the NFL made an epic mistake (Scared NFL Makes Epic Mistake with Anthem Policy) and actually created an opportunity for everyone to stand up for what matters. Reporters will ask about the wrist bands and the message will continue. Won't it be exciting to see every kid in the little league world series wearing these wrist bands?
