If you are a homeowner, you have control over making your home more energy efficient. Inflation affects everyone and we really see it in our power bill. Gasoline goes up when there are hurricanes or when oil rises and goes down when oil drops. The power companies try to increase your rates every year. Minimizing your power bill is helpful so you can save more. Unfortunately you have to invest a little to improve your home to save over the long term.
The best home improvement you can make to your home is replacing your windows. Your power company will come to your house to do a free energy inspection to let you know where the biggest waste of energy is in your home. If you have single pane windows, you are losing so much energy as they don't keep the outside air out of your house.
We were told the sliding glass doors were very expensive and were not quoted a price in addition to the rest of the windows in the house. We had all the windows replace with dual pane windows a year-and-a-half ago, but the sliding glass doors were not replaced until this past Tuesday. The back of the house was always colder when it is cold outside.
Since we got the new dual pane sliding glass doors, the back of the house is the same temperature as the front of the house. The heater also has not come on all day where it would have come on around 8 or 9 p.m. this evening. The temperature has not changed in the house almost all day despite it being cooler outside.
I wish we got the sliding glass doors done at the same time does the windows in the rest of the house. I believe we would have saved so much more money on our electric bill over the past year-and-a-half if we've done that. See the screenshots of our Nest thermostat app.
We did get solar panels around the same time and with the solar companies app there is a place where you can login to your power bill to determine the saving your have received from the solar panels. It was not working correctly, so the solar company said I can send them my power bills and they will do the analysis for me.
I am downloading the statements now and looks to do it again in January of next year to see the difference in the power consumption since the new dual pane (actually 3 pane) sliding glass doors were installed.
