Samsung completely blew away my expectations with their many announcements in today's event. The new Samsung Folding phone looks awesome if you don't mind having a thicker phone. It does look more like a brick than a phone until it is unfolded. Enough with the bashing, here is a quick list of everything right about it:
- 6 total cameras able to help no matter how you hold it or how you would like to zoom in or out.
- embeded fingerprint sensor on power button
- ability to continue work as you unfold the phone
- multi task monster
- dual batteries
- cool colors with colored hinges
- 5G Version
What I did not get clarification on:
- Does it still have wireless charging?
- When will it go on sale? Not up for sale, but rather when will the price come down to a midrange laptop level?
- Is Iris Scan available?
- What about Samsung Pay?
- Is DEX available on it?
Then we got everything except the fold in the new Samsung S10 and here is my list of awesome:
- Under the screen finger print reader
- Huge battery with faster than fast wireless charging
- Ability to wirelessly charge other devices including someone else's phone
- 3 different sizes + 1 huge 5G version
- moved the cameras to the edge on the front and the back
- 3 cameras on the back and 2 awesome front cameras
- Super steady video
- Adobe video editing software, Premier Rush
- easier upload compatible with Instagram
- DEX ability with Adobe Premier
- WiFi 6
Not much to me wasn't clear, but here is my short list of what I would like to know more about:
- Iris scanner?]
Samsung shared much more cool stuff and no more dumb speakers, but I hope someone will share more about:
- Samsung buds
- Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
- Samsung new Fit
- Samsung Tab 5e
Based on my past experience of the Samsung Icon buds, it was not fun to use. The new ones have Bixby built in which I hate. It sounds like a cool concept to compete with Apple and their ear buds that you see everywhere, or do we just see the knock off ones for $19 from Walmart?
I was excited to see the Galaxy Watch Active and the new Fit getting a slimmer style and lower price tag. It did look like the new Fit will have wireless charging instead of relying on a cradle to charge it.
The new Samsung Tab 5e was a teaser. They mention how it is the slimmer than last year's Tab S4 which I love. The price tag came down to $399 which is almost half of the Tab S4. At that price it probably won't come with a S Pen like the Tab S3 and S4. I would assume that you could still use a clip in keyboard, but based on the limited support for Dex, I don't know if this will be included. I would assume you still could use an additional micro SD card, but based on how long this paragraph is, there is not enough information about this new tablet and due to the lower price tag I don't think it will have the capabilities of past Samsung tablets. It might be more of a Tab A replacement.
I plan on doing a video version of this blog and embeding it below. Please check out my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLqjtbLA0FLEc2_FafOVy0g
