I was super impressed with the deal possible to get a new Microsoft Surface Pro 6 since I was able to get it with the keyboard type cover and stylus bundle. I got it home, turned it on, bypassed much of the Microsoft Office and Cortana Bloatware and get it up and running. I was very disappointed.
I was disappointed that they type cover does not have back lit keys. I was very impressed with the typing abilities of it, but thankfully I know where the keys are at so backlit keys was not a killer for me. If you are a hunt and peck typer, you would not type well with this Surface Pro 6 in the dark. The touch pad on the keyboard was very responsive though and didn't get in the way of me typing.
Out of the box, the Surface Pro 6 display is set up beautifully and looks great. Despite running Windows 10 Home, the display is set up at 200% which makes everything readable. If you were expecting the Surface Pro 6 to replace your awesome desktop this is not going to be that special item. If you are brave enough to switch the display to 100% it is very difficult to read even with the best eyes. The display is larger than expected when projecting to a wireless display. I tried to use trading software with my TV set up as the extended wireless display and it did not look good until I set the additional display to 100%, but everything was far too small on the Surface display.
The TV as an extended wireless display had a default value of 150% which kept the usual wireless display higher than the expected. It looked great and the touchpad on the type cover was more responsive than when I have used my mouse or blue tooth keyboard on my desktop all in one.
Overall, hate is too strong of a word. The Surface Pro 6 is a beautiful device that you can set up Chrome, used as a mobile work device and is set up nicer than most other Windows tablets like the under powered Samsung Galaxy Book. I don't feel like this device fits me and would prefer a Chromebook with a detachable keyboard. So far HP makes it and Google's Pixelbook is more similar to the Surface Pro 6 with a similar pricetag.
Having a similar pricetag as a Surface Pro 6, the Pixel Slate is too expensive. It is nice to have the power inside the Surface running Chrome OS, but not neccessary. I guess I just don't value paying more than what I pay for my Samsung Tab S4. So I bought the keyboard that clips in to my tablet and am happy.
