I wrote a blog a few months ago about how exciting this shortened NBA season is as there is a couple of great games being played every night. Unfortunately there have been a number of injuries this season. Even some of the newer rising stars got injured like Jeremy Lin. Kobe Bryant did not play for a couple of weeks towards the end of the season. I thought it appeared he was trying to save energy for the playoffs.
Dwight Howard wasn't playing hurt to save himself for the playoffs as it was announced he had season ending back surgery a week before the playoffs began. Some may believe that he was holding out to force the hand of the Magic to trade him or make some huge changes in the off season. Derek Rose was injured a good part of the season but came back to play in the playoffs and ruptured his ACL in game one which ended his season and possibly playing in the Olympics. Baron Davis dislocated his knee on a fast break on Sunday in a game where his Knicks won their first playoff game for the franchise since 2001.
What I thought was great for the fans has turned to be very disappointing as the season is filled with injuries. It may raise the question should basketball players be playing more than twice a week. LeBron James says that there should not be an asterisk this year if the Heat win the championship. I don't see how there couldn't be an asterisk when this year is filled with so many injuries due to being so short.
